FIR Registered Against Unidentified Rioters After Outrage at Garbage Segregation Centre

Thane, April 4: A tragic incident at a garbage segregation centre in Maharashtra’s Thane has led to violence and multiple FIRs, following the death of a woman worker, Rajashri Jadhav, who was fatally injured after being struck by a dumper and mishandled by an excavator.

The incident took place on March 31 at the C P Talao waste transfer station, where approximately 50 women were reportedly working in a prohibited zone during garbage segregation. According to an official from the Wagle Estate police station, Jadhav was hit by a dumper, causing her to get caught in an excavator. In a disturbing sequence, the operator allegedly used the machine's bucket to lift her and dump her into the dumper, leading to her death.

The shocking nature of the accident triggered outrage among those at the site. A group of around eight unidentified individuals reacted violently, hurling stones at dumpers and spraying machines, resulting in damage to 14 dumpers, officials confirmed.

Following a complaint by a sanitary inspector from the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), an FIR was filed on April 2. The charges include multiple sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), such as:
  • Section 189(2): Unlawful assembly
  • Section 190: Common object of unlawful assembly
  • Sections 191(1) and 191(2): Rioting
Provisions of the Prevention of Destruction and Loss of Property Act were also invoked in relation to the damage caused during the riot.

Meanwhile, the excavator driver, identified as Mohammad Sanaullah Farooque, has been booked under Section 106 of the BNS (causing death by negligence) at Shrinagar police station.

Authorities continue to investigate the matter, and search operations are underway to identify the rioters involved in the destruction.
