New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) — The New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF), currently underway at Bharat Mandapam, will remain closed on February 5 in observance of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the National Book Trust (NBT) announced on Tuesday.

The fair, which commenced on February 1, is celebrating India’s 75-year journey as a Republic, with "Republic@75" as its theme for this year’s edition. In a statement, NBT explained that the temporary closure will allow visitors, staff, and partners to participate in the elections and fulfill their civic duties.

"We would like to inform you that the New Delhi World Book Fair 2025 will be closed on February 5 to encourage public participation in the Delhi Assembly elections," the statement read. "This closure will allow our visitors, staff, and partners to cast their votes."

The fair is set to reopen on February 6 and will run until February 9, with extended hours from 10 am to 9 pm.

This year’s NDWBF has attracted authors, speakers, and exhibitors from 50 countries, including France, Qatar, Spain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Colombia. The focus nation for 2025 is Russia.

As part of the event, several renowned literature festivals are being held, such as the Brahmaputra Literature Festival, Prabhat Prakashan, Bharat Literature Festival, Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival, Penguin Dialogues, and the Great Indian Book Tour.

Additionally, the NDWBF offers free entry to students in school uniforms and senior citizens.

The fair has been a key cultural event in New Delhi, providing a platform for book lovers, authors, and publishers from around the world to connect and celebrate the written word.
