Campaign to Span All 14 Districts of Kerala and 166 Countries Worldwide
Thiruvananthapuram, April 1 — In a powerful move to combat the growing drug menace, the World Malayali Federation (WMF), a Vienna-based expatriate organisation, has launched a state-wide and global anti-drug awareness campaign. The initiative, which kicked off in all 14 districts of Kerala, also aims to extend its reach across 166 countries where the WMF has a presence. The campaign was formally inaugurated at a function held in Vienna on Sunday, with V D Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly, delivering the keynote address.
Focus on Eliminating Drug Sources, Not Just Cases
Speaking at the event, Satheesan emphasized the importance of dismantling the drug supply chain rather than merely increasing the number of enforcement cases.Satheesan also called for robust government mechanisms that can effectively intercept and dismantle these supply networks.“Drug enforcement should not be measured by the number of cases registered, but by our success in identifying and eliminating the sources of narcotics,” he said, warning of the alarming rise in drug distribution across Kerala.
Global Push Backed by Malayali Diaspora
The WMF's campaign is not limited to Kerala. With active chapters in 166 countries, the organisation plans to launch a series of educational drives, public outreach events, and community programs aimed at spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.Notable figures including Prince Pallikkunnel, founder chairman of WMF, along with other key office-bearers, were present at the Vienna launch event, underscoring the campaign’s significance and global ambition.
The initiative marks a collective effort by the Malayali diaspora to address one of the most pressing issues facing Kerala’s youth and society at large.
