Wrestler Shot Dead at Wrestling Event in Haryana's Sonipat, Investigation Underway

Chandigarh, Feb 27: A 40-year-old wrestler, identified as Rakesh, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Haryana’s Sonipat district, police confirmed on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Kundal village, where Rakesh had arrived to watch a wrestling competition. According to SHO Bir Singh of Kharkhoda police station, the assailants opened fire, critically injuring him. He was immediately rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Rakesh, known for his deep association with the wrestling community, had been running an ‘akhara’ (wrestling training center) in Sohati village for several years.

Authorities have registered a case, and an investigation is currently underway to identify the attackers and uncover the motive behind the killing.
