Yogi Adityanath Slams Akhilesh Yadav Over Cow Slaughter Remarks, Defends 'Gaushala' Development

CM Accuses Samajwadi Party of Links with Butchers, Highlights Law and Order Improvements in Bareilly

Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), April 1 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday, accusing his party of being connected with cow slaughter and butchers during its tenure. The remarks came in response to Yadav’s recent jibe on cow dung and BJP’s focus on cowsheds.

Addressing a gathering in Bareilly while inaugurating and laying the foundation for 132 development projects worth ₹933 crore, Adityanath said, “The Samajwadi Party gave us destitute cows. They left cows unclaimed. Their leader says cow dung stinks — of course it would to someone whose party handed cows to butchers.”

“They Smell Cow Dung, Not Their Own Deeds,” Says Adityanath

The Chief Minister’s remarks were a retort to Akhilesh Yadav’s March 27 statement in Kannauj, where he criticized the BJP for building gaushalas while promoting his party’s efforts in establishing perfume parks. Yadav had said, “They (BJP) like foul smell, that’s why they are building cowsheds. We like fragrance, that’s why we were making a perfume park.”

Countering the comment, Adityanath alleged, “People associated with the Samajwadi Party used to slaughter cows. They had close ties with smugglers and butchers. When we sent the butchers to 'jahannum' (hell), they started complaining because their friends went with them.”

He added, “They don’t know the sanctity of serving Gau Mata (mother cow). Naturally, they will find a foul odour in cow dung — but they fail to notice the foulness of their own actions.”

Bareilly Free of Riots Since 2017, Claims CM

Referring to law and order in Bareilly, Adityanath stated that the city — once plagued by frequent riots — has witnessed no such incidents in the last eight years. “Before 2017, Bareilly saw five to ten riots a year. Today, rioters are hiding like rats. They know that if they try anything, not only will they face consequences, but the government will also confiscate their wealth and use it to help the poor,” he said.

He further highlighted the government’s initiatives to support cattle welfare, noting that a ₹1500 monthly grant is now provided for the care of each destitute animal. “You can now gain virtue by serving cows and receive government assistance for it,” he added.

Nath Corridor and Clean Ganga Projects Highlighted

Adityanath also criticized previous governments for reducing Bareilly's identity to the iconic “jhumka” (earring), contrasting it with his administration’s efforts to restore the city's mythological roots by developing the Nath corridor.

He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in executing the Namami Gange project, saying, “PM Modi made the dream of a clean and uninterrupted Ganga a reality. This led to a grand and divine Kumbh that elevated Uttar Pradesh’s identity on the global stage.”

Yadav, in his earlier statement, had accused the BJP of spreading “the stench of hatred” in Kannauj and urged people to vote out the party to restore the city’s legacy of harmony.

The political war of words appears to be intensifying ahead of upcoming elections, with both parties leveraging symbolism — from cow dung to perfume — to sway public sentiment.
