Yogi Adityanath Slams Opposition as ‘Barriers to Development’ in Uttar Pradesh

CM Highlights Achievements as BJP Government Marks Eight Years in Power

Agra, March 26 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp attack on the opposition on Wednesday, accusing parties like the Congress and Samajwadi Party of obstructing the state’s progress while highlighting his government's achievements over the last eight years.

Speaking at the Vikas Utsav event in Agra, Adityanath said, “Before 2017, Uttar Pradesh’s public system was dominated by hooliganism and mafia rule. Youngsters faced an identity crisis, farmers were pushed to suicide, and the poor died of hunger.”

"Congress, SP Opposed Ram Temple and Kumbh": CM Targets Opposition

The chief minister did not hold back in his criticism of the opposition. He alleged that both the Congress and the Samajwadi Party not only failed to initiate development during their tenures but also actively resisted progress when it came under BJP rule.

“They fought against the government even during the Covid-19 pandemic, opposed the consecration of the Ram temple, and spread false propaganda about the Maha Kumbh,” he said.

Adityanath claimed that whenever pride in Uttar Pradesh was being promoted, opposition parties tried to create confusion. “They never contributed to development when in power. Now, when it is happening, they are becoming obstacles,” he remarked.

Infrastructure, Jobs, and Welfare Schemes in Focus

Asserting that the BJP-led administration transformed Uttar Pradesh from a BIMARU (lagging) state into a growing economy, Adityanath outlined the state's advances in agriculture, infrastructure, and employment. He highlighted the One District, One Product initiative, improved expressways, metro rail projects, and the construction of new airports.

“In agriculture, we have turned despair into hope. Farmers are no longer taking their lives; they are contributing to the economy. Today, UP is the leading producer of foodgrains, sugarcane, potatoes, and ethanol in India,” he said.

He added that more than 8.5 lakh youngsters had been employed in government roles, including 60,000 new police recruits, of whom 12,000 are women.

Rs 635 Crore in Development Projects Launched in Agra

During the event, the chief minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 128 development projects in Agra worth ₹635.22 crore. These include metro rail services and the nearly completed civil terminal of Agra Airport.

He also distributed financial aid under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan, awarded Anganwadi workers, handed out tricycles and assistive devices to differently-abled beneficiaries, and presented certificates to Ayushman Bharat recipients.

The CM emphasized that more than ₹80,000 crore had been transferred to over 2.62 crore farmers under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, and ₹2.8 lakh crore had been paid to sugarcane farmers.

Boost for Heritage and Social Welfare

Adityanath stressed the dual commitment of his government to both heritage and development. “Agra's museum has been renamed after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and the Vrindavan Bihari Lal corridor is being expanded,” he noted.

He further announced that the financial aid for women under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana had been increased from ₹51,000 to ₹1 lakh.

“Though the governance and administration structures are the same, these eight years mark a transformational period for Uttar Pradesh,” the chief minister concluded.
