Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh – April 4

A tragic incident unfolded in Kangra district on Thursday, as a youth succumbed to critical injuries after swallowing a packet of chitta (a form of adulterated heroin) in an attempt to evade police capture. The young man, whose identity remains undisclosed at the request of his family, had been battling for life since January.

According to police reports, the youth was caught with 15 grams of chitta in the Barsar area on January 25. In a bid to avoid arrest, he managed to flee and swallowed the packet of narcotics. His health deteriorated rapidly, prompting his admission to the Intensive Care Unit at AIIMS Bilaspur.

Despite doctors successfully removing the packet from his stomach, it had already burst inside his body, causing severe internal damage. Synthetic drug toxicity severely affected multiple organs, including his kidneys, leaving him dependent on dialysis. After more than a month of intensive treatment, he passed away at home.

Superintendent of Police Hamirpur, Bhagat Singh Thakur, confirmed the youth’s death and stated that he had prior narcotics-related offenses on record.

Petrol Pump Owner Nabbed with 38.63 Grams of Chitta

In a separate operation earlier the same day, Barsar police arrested a petrol pump owner, Ashish Kumar, in Bani Kaswa. Authorities recovered 38.63 grams of chitta from his premises during a raid.

Police revealed that Ashish Kumar had been involved in drug supply previously and was again found smuggling the synthetic drug. Following the recovery, he was taken into custody and remanded to police custody until April 7.

Law enforcement continues to intensify its crackdown on the growing drug menace in the region, with officials urging community cooperation in the fight against narcotics.
