NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar Says Remarks Were "Simply Not Acceptable"

YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia and Apoorva Mukhija have submitted written apologies to the National Commission for Women (NCW) after facing severe backlash for their offensive remarks made during an online show titled "India's Got Latent". NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar confirmed this development at a press conference held in New Delhi on Friday, clearly stating that the panel would not tolerate inappropriate language.

Lengthy Interrogation by NCW Officials

Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as "BeerBiceps," and Apoorva Mukhija appeared before the NCW on Thursday, accompanied by the show's producers, Saurabh Bothra and Tushar Poojari. Sources indicated that the YouTubers faced an extensive questioning session that lasted several hours, addressing the controversial remarks made during the show hosted by comedian Samay Raina, which sparked public outrage last month.

NCW Issues Stern Warning on Language Use

Chairperson Rahatkar emphasized that the commission is deeply concerned about the social impact of such remarks and issued a clear message: offensive language and disrespectful comments towards women will not be tolerated.

The commission had previously issued notices to the individuals involved, leading to their appearance before the panel. Expressing regret for their conduct, both Allahbadia and Mukhija submitted formal written apologies ("maafinama") acknowledging their wrongdoing.

Allahbadia Assures Greater Mindfulness in Future

In her address to reporters, Rahatkar quoted Allahbadia's assurance, where he specifically committed to exercising greater caution and respect towards women in the future. He acknowledged the severity of his actions, stating:

"This is the first and last time such a mistake has happened. From now on, I will think carefully and speak with respect about women."

Further detailing his commitment, Rahatkar highlighted Allahbadia's acceptance of responsibility for his remarks, noting his promise to remain vigilant about the impact of his words:

"He specifically mentioned that the law is doing its job, and what has happened cannot be undone. He said, 'I will ensure that I speak thoughtfully and remain vigilant about the impact of my words, especially concerning women.'"

Supreme Court Grants Interim Protection but Criticizes Remarks

Following widespread criticism, several FIRs were filed against Allahbadia due to his controversial comments on parents and sex, prompting intervention by the Supreme Court. While the court granted Allahbadia interim protection from arrest, it described his remarks as "vulgar," labeling his mindset as "dirty" and "shameful" to society.
