Former Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Welcomed by BJP Leadership
Vijayawada, May 14 — In a significant political development ahead of the Andhra Pradesh elections, Zakia Khanam, former YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MLC and Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday.Khanam, who had recently resigned from both her post and the YSRCP, was formally inducted into the BJP at the party’s state headquarters in Vijayawada. She was welcomed by Andhra Pradesh BJP president and Rajahmundry MP D Purandeswari, along with senior party leaders.
“Khanam joining the BJP reflects a major shift and strengthens our commitment to inclusive leadership,” Purandeswari stated in an official party release.
BJP Underscores Inclusive Development and Minority Support
Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Y Sathya Kumar Yadav and other BJP leaders were present at the event, applauding Khanam's decision to align with the saffron party.Reinforcing the BJP’s core principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas (Together with all, development for all), Purandeswari said the party delivers welfare that transcends caste and religion, with a focus on uplifting the underprivileged and marginalised communities.
She further highlighted that the trust of minority communities in the BJP is steadily increasing, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bold governance and decisive leadership in national security and economic development.
With Zakia Khanam’s entry, the BJP aims to strengthen its outreach and appeal across broader sections of Andhra Pradesh’s electorate.
