Puducherry, April 9 The Puducherry Union Territory has recorded a record 89.87% voter turnout for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, a top official said here on Thursday.
The 89.87% voter turnout is the highest since 1964, when the first Assembly elections were held after the territory's merger with India following its independence from France, Chief Electoral Officer, P Jawahar, stated.
In 1974, the voter turnout was 85.33%, and in 2006 and 2011, it was 85.29% and 85.57% respectively, the CEO stated in a press release.
The 2026 Assembly election will see the highest voter turnout since the first elections were held in 1964, including those for the Lok Sabha and the Assembly, he added.
