The India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (Ind-Aus ECTA) has completed its fourth year today. Since its signing on April 2, 2022, the agreement has been instrumental in boosting trade flows, fostering industry connections, and creating new opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs, and employment in both countries. India-Australia trade reached $24.1 billion in 2024-25, while India's exports to Australia saw an 8% increase over the previous year. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated that, as of February 2025-26, India's total trade with Australia amounted to $19.3 billion.
Under the ECTA, Australia granted India 100% tariff line access. All Indian exports have also become eligible for zero-duty market access into Australia, effective from the beginning of this year. Meanwhile, India has granted preferential market access on approximately 70% of its tariff lines, covering around 90% of the trade value. The Ministry added that over the past four years, the agreement has continued to strengthen bilateral economic engagement, with both sides benefiting from improved market access and reduced trade barriers.
