The government has modified the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana to ensure transparency, accountability, and timely claim payments to farmers. Responding to supplementary questions in the Lok Sabha today, Union Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that previously, farmers had to wait for several months to receive payments into their accounts. He added that insurers will be required to pay agricultural-related claims with an interest of 12% if they fail to settle the claims within 21 days.
The Minister also informed that if state governments also delay the claim process, they will have to pay 12% interest to the farmers. Mr. Chouhan said that farmers can also register complaints on the Krishi Rakshak Portal regarding their grievances related to claim settlement. He said that so far, 2,71,000 complaints have been registered on the portal, and the government is investigating the complaints and taking strict action.
