President of Finland, Dr. Alexander Stubb, stated today that the Global South will determine the future of the world order, and India will play a crucial role in this. Delivering the keynote address at the 11th edition of the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, President Stubb acknowledged that there are significant challenges in global politics today. He called for concrete proposals on how to restore the global world order. He noted that the balance of global power has shifted, and the Global South has a strong economy and demographics on its side. President Stubb said that the era of a Western-dominated world is over, but it will take time for this to be fully accepted in the West.
President Stubb emphasized that a power vacuum will exist without a functioning global power. He added that if nations abandon international rules, the current world order will collapse. He suggested that the West should try to find the best way to manage power in an imperfect world. He said that India has been aware of this and has based its foreign policy on a pragmatic worldview. He said that India has been careful not to rely solely on the goodwill of one partner, and this approach makes sense. He further stated that India does not isolate itself, and its power is based on active engagement.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Raisina Dialogue. The theme this year is "Saṁskāra – Assertion, Accommodation, Advancement."
