Kochi, May 12 – A suspicious phone call inquiring about sensitive naval assets has triggered a swift security response at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, leading to the arrest of a 31-year-old man from Kozhikode.
According to officials, the incident took place on May 9, when the call was made from a civilian number to the Naval Base. The nature of the inquiry immediately raised red flags, prompting internal security mechanisms to act without delay.
The Navy promptly alerted the concerned intelligence agencies. Following a preliminary inquiry, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Harbour Police Station in Kochi.
"The suspected person has been tracked to be a civilian and the Southern Naval Command is extending full cooperation to the investigating authorities on this incident," the Indian Navy stated in a press release on Monday.
Emphasizing its commitment to national security, the Indian Navy reiterated its vigilance against any attempts of subversion or espionage. "The Indian Navy remains ever vigilant against subversive and espionage activities carried out by adversarial elements to obtain sensitive information. Maintaining a high level of preparedness, the Indian Navy is committed to the highest standards of operational security in national interest," the statement added.
Authorities have not disclosed further details on the motive or background of the arrested individual as investigations continue.
