Jehanabad, May 11 — A police constable in Bihar’s Jehanabad district allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with a revolver on Sunday morning, according to senior police officials.

Vinod Chaudhary, a resident of Gaya district, was found in a pool of blood at the Police Lines premises around 8 am. The incident triggered shock among his colleagues, who rushed to the spot upon hearing the sound of a gunshot.

Superintendent of Police Arvind Pratap Singh confirmed the incident and said Chaudhary was currently posted at the Jehanabad district court and resided in the Civil Lines area.

“Initial reports suggest that he had been battling depression following the recent death of his wife,” the SP said. “The revolver used in the incident was part of the police inventory. An investigation is ongoing to determine whether it was his official service weapon.”

Authorities have launched a detailed probe into the incident, and further information is awaited.
