The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has taken strict action against e-commerce entities for selling toys that violate the Mandatory Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) standards.
In this regard, the CCPA has imposed a penalty of five lakh rupees on Snapdeal, a private e-commerce company, for selling toys that did not comply with BIS standards on its platform. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution stated that the platform was engaging in unfair trade practices and misleading advertisements to attract customers, which constitutes a violation of consumer rights. Considering the matter, the authority has also directed the e-commerce company to ensure future compliance and enhance consumer redressal facilities.
The Authority reiterated its commitment to protecting consumer rights, preventing unfair trade practices, and ensuring a safe and transparent digital marketplace, and urged all e-commerce platforms to exercise strict regulatory compliance and provide accurate disclosures.
